• Born Michael Victor Metzger, Michael Reese Hospital, 1940, to proud parents Amy and Lep Metzger.
• Most memorable early childhood moment: accidentally electrocuting, but not quite killing self, with homemade radio.
• First printed a black and white photograph of a bird, July 1950.
• Amateur radio operators license at age 13.
• Most memorable preteen moment: making $5 off my father who bet me I couldn't finish more than 50 tool holders in a day at 1cent a piece. Seven hours later, I walked away with 20 times my weekly allowance and a stunned/proud father wondering if he really taught me to run a lathe that well.
• Acquired single engine pilot license at age 19.
• Worked as bartender 19 - 22.
• First major trip out of country: age 22 worked on a NATO Air Force Base in Ismir, Turkey, for six months leveling a runway.
• Received B.S. in Physics 1963, University of Wisconsin, Madison.
• Traveled the world engineering industrial diamond wheels 1963 - 1973.
